As you hardcore SOCOM fans already know, Sony announced their first next-gen SOCOM installment at their May Gamers Day event. Complete with a preview trailer and a handful of screenshots from the anticipated title, Sony also announced a change in developer, opting to go with Slant Six Games, versus previous developer and Sony property, Zipper Interactive. While both developers remain close allies in the development of this latest installment, Zipper has turned over the day-to-day responsibilities to Slant Six and SCEA's Foster City production team.
Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Slant Six Games is best known for creating the complex graphics engine that powered Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror.
Due to launch in November 2007, SOCOM Confrontation will feature five new North African themed maps, including a 32-player version of "Crossroads." According to Sony, new theme packs will be made available for purchase via the PlayStation Store.
In addition to new maps, players will have the option of playing as U.S., European, or Asian special forces. The newest SOCOM installment will also feature up to 7 different game modes on each map. Additionally, much like Rainbow Six Vegas, gamers will have the ability to fully customize their character.
As SOCOM Confrontation is a PS3 exclusive, gamers will enjoy full SIXAXIS support and advanced destructible environments.
